Bolivia is a geographical synthesis in the heart of South America, with a total territory of 1,098,581 Km2 divided into 4 major regions:
Andes: The Andes region situated at an average altitude of 3,800 meters above sea level is a cold region with little fauna and flora. It is made up of the departments of La Paz in the north, Oruro in the center and Potosí in the south. Some of the most important attractions in the Andes are the city of La Paz, Lake Titikaka, Tiwanaku and the Uyuni salt flat.
Valleys: The valleys on an average altitude of 2,390 meters above sea level have a temperate climate and friendly people. Three departments are located in the valleys: Cochabamba, Chuquisaca and Tarija which are considered the garden of Bolivia because of their abundant production of fruits, vegetables and flowers.
Tropical lowlands: At an average altitude of 330 meters above sea level and surrounded by large navigable rivers, lakes and unexplored lagoons, with tropical forest, a warm climate and an enormous variety of flora and fauna, the lowlands are a natural paradise for adventurous hikers and fishing enthusiasts. Bolivia’s tropical lowlands border on Peru in the northwest, on Brazil in the northeast and on Paraguay in the south.
Amazon: As one of the largest continuous forest ecosystems in the world, this region houses a surprising diversity of ecosystems and native cultures. The Bolivian Amazon is considered one of the most pristine and well-preserved regions in South America. Making up 30% of the national territory, the Amazon covers the departments of Pando, Beni and the northern part of the departments of La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz.
