Alasitas
January 24, LA PAZ
This is a crafts and ornaments expo where
by tradition, everything is made in miniatures. All the artisans
expertise is proof in this event. There is also a wide variety
of traditional food. The celebration is dedicated to a native
god named EKEKO, god of wealthness for the poor. People buy in
miniature what they would like to get during the year, like small
houses, cars, money, etc.

Poder

The celebrations of the Lord of Gran Poder is one of the most
important expressions of dance and music in the region. A big
parade is held in La Paz downtown where different groups dance
wearing traditional costumes, as in Oruro Carnival. There can
be seen dances like the famous Saya, Caporales, Diablada, Morenada,
Tobas, Kullawada, Llamerada, among many others. The parade last
the hole day.

It is another colorful parade, similar to the Gran Poder celebration.
With the difference that people that dance belong to different
universities of La Paz. So you can appreciate culture mixed with
youth, energy and beautiful girls from La Paz.
Virgen de la
Candelaria
February 02, COPACABANA
This religious celebration is devoted to
the Virgin of Candelaria, located in the town of Copacabana, at
the shores of Lake Titikaka. Every year, hundreds of people walk
from La Paz to this town in order to give tribute to this miraculous
divinity. People ask for favors in exchange of promises.
Carnival
February or March, Bolivia
This world wide celebration, the Carnival,
has it own characteristics in Bolivia. As well as other celebrations,
a traditional dance and music parade take place in every city
and town. In La Paz city the celebration is called Jisk´a
Anata, aymara word that means "little game".

New Year
June 21, TIWANAKU
The arrival of the ancestral Aymara New Year
gathers a large number of people that celebrates this event in the
ancient ruins of Tiwanaku (La Paz). According to the Aymara calendar,
the world is going thru the year 5.514. The Sun (a god divinity
for Aymaras) is welcome by the native priests with rituals and music.
San Ignacio
July 31, SAN IGNACIO DE MOXOS
One of the most important celebrations in the region of BENI, the
San Ignacio celebration is an excellent chance to know more about
the culture that live in the bolivian amazon, With traditions and
dances very different from the Altiplano region, the people from
San Ignacio devote this party to their saint for about a week. It
is the longest celebration in Bolivia.

The celebration of the "Dead" has
a Catholic root in Bolivia. People visit cemeteries to remember
the ones that are gone and bring with them food and all sort of
things that their beloved ones used to like. The tradition says
that the spirits of the dead come to earth for one day to visit
their family and share a meal with them.
