The Andes cover an extensive arid highland with an average height of 3’800 meters above sea level. Its chilly winds and cold temperatures are typical for this area where only a sparse selection of fauna and flora found their habitat.

Extending from the department of La Paz in the northern part of Bolivia to Oruro in the center and Potosí in the southern area, the Andes embrace well known tourist attractions like the city of La Paz, Lake Titicaca, Tiwanaku, and the salt flats of Uyuni.
